Slamming Mahindra & Mahindra and Piaggio India for seeking a level playing field and more time for rolling out quadricycles, Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj has said such a move is unfair and would hurt innovation. The government has already given in-principle clearance to the quadricycle.

?M&M and Piaggio have been talking of a level-playing field and more time before quadricycles could be permitted so that they have time to work on their products. This is unfair,? said Bajaj.

?There is no level playing field in competition. It is a free market. This is the world of capitalism and the fittest is supposed to survive,? Bajaj pointed out to his rivals.

Bajaj also hit out at carmakers for selling cars with five to ten-year-old safety and emission technologies in the Indian market.

?Carmakers are afraid of these new vehicles gaining legitimacy and the demand for the cars getting affected, and they are protecting themselves, it does not mean they are right,? Bajaj said.

The path to the launch of the RE60 is still not cleared. ?The RE60 has still not got the green signal. The red signal has just turned yellow. We have still not received the approval and there are still a lot of processes to follow before the final notification is made,? Bajaj said.
