India-Pakistan conflict: Lamenting that he will never receive a Nobel Peace Prize, US President Donald Trump on Saturday listed international deals and treaties that he believes he helped broker. His comments came after a former Pentagon official criticised him for wanting to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
Trump reiterates Role in India-Pakistan ceasefire
Trump also repeated his past claims that he had successfully “stopped” India and Pakistan from going to war, a claim that India has repeatedly denied. He further highlighted his role in other agreements, including the Abraham Accords in the Middle East and his efforts to ease tensions between Egypt and Ethiopia over the Nile River.
New Rwanda–Congo Treaty
Trump’s remarks followed his announcement of a new treaty between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In a social media post, Trump credited himself and Secretary of State Marco Rubio for arranging the deal. “This is a great day for Africa and, quite frankly, a great day for the world!” Trump wrote, noting that officials from both countries would visit Washington to sign the treaty. The agreement aims to end decades of deadly conflict in the region.
“I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize”
Despite his diplomatic claims, Trump expressed pessimism about winning the Nobel Peace Prize. “I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for this,” he wrote. “I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize for stopping the war between India and Pakistan, or for stopping the war between Serbia and Kosovo.” He also noted that even his contributions to the Abraham Accords and other peace efforts, including those involving Russia-Ukraine and Israel-Iran, would likely be overlooked by the Nobel committee. “But the people know, and that’s all that matters to me,” Trump added.
Pakistan nominates Trump for Nobel Prize
Despite Trump’s doubts, Pakistan recently nominated him for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize.
“Government of Pakistan recommends President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of his decisive diplomatic intervention and pivotal leadership during the recent India-Pakistan crisis,” the Pakistani government wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The nomination supports Trump’s claims that he helped prevent a war between the two South Asian countries.
Trump’s self-described diplomatic achievements have often been questioned. India, for instance, has denied that he played any role in de-escalating tensions with Pakistan. Critics, including American lawmakers and foreign policy analysts, argue that Trump is exaggerating his contributions.
Despite this, Trump insists that recognition is not his priority. “No matter what I do, I won’t get a Nobel Peace Prize,” he wrote. “But I do these things because the people matter. They know the truth!”
