A 21-year-old Indian-origin student from Massachusetts, United States, tragically died in a freak accident Sunday night, according to Bentley University officials. Gaurav Jaisingh, an undergraduate from Shrewsbury, fell to his death from a balcony during a senior class trip to the Bahamas.

“We share our deepest condolences with Gaurav’s family, friends and loved ones,” Bentley University in Waltham said in a statement. “This is an enormous tragedy for our community.” The heartbreaking news shook the university and Jaisingh’s loved ones a week before graduation. According to the official Bentley.Edu website, the Undergraduate Commencement is scheduled for Saturday, May 17, 2025. The university has since confirmed via an X post that they plan to honour Gaurav at the ceremony.

“He was gearing up for graduation this weekend, so I hope we take some time to honour him this weekend at graduation,” Gaurav’s fellow senior Sydney Bazin told WHDH. “So yes, it’s just actually heartbreaking.”

How did Indian-origin Gaurav Jaisingh die?

The Massachusetts school’s initial statement to ABC News underscored that while local authorities were on the case, Gaurav Jaisingh appeared to have accidentally fallen from a balcony. The Royal Bahamas Police Force has since confirmed that an American male fell to his death from an upper-level balcony. He was eventually found unresponsive on a lower floor.

Although emergency services responded to the accidental development by transporting him to a hospital, his injuries unfortunately got the better of him while during the ride to hospital, as per the police. Bentley University later confirmed that the individual in question was Gaurav Jaisingh.

Who was Gaurav Jaisingh?

As per his LinkedIn profile, the 21-year-old Shrewsbury, Massachusetts native, was pursuing a B.S in Finance along with a minor in Computer Information Systems. His campus involvements included being a part of the fraternity Delta Sigma PI. Jaisingh also shared close ties to Student Programs & Engagement, New Student Programs, and the South Asian Students Association.

The Bentley University student was bound to come onboard the financial services company full-time as a Client Solutions Associate in New York City following his graduation from the school. In a six-months-old LinkedIn post, Gaurav shared the incoming professional achievement: “After an incredible summer in Boston as a Client Solutions Intern at FactSet, I am thrilled to announce that I have accepted a full-time offer to join the team as a Client Solutions Associate in the New York City office upon graduating from Bentley University!”
