Kap’s Cafe, a newly launched restaurant owned by popular comedian Kapil Sharma, came under gunfires on Wednesday night in Surrey, British Columbia. A video showing shots being fired at the cafe has gone viral on social media.

Preliminary reports indicate that multiple shots were fired at the cafe, though no injuries have been reported.

Harjit Singh Laddi – an alleged Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative and one of India’s most wanted terrorists on the NIA list has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to reports, Laddi said he was enraged by certain remarks allegedly made by comedian Kapil Sharma, which he cited as the motive behind the shooting.

Who is Harjit Singh Laddi

Harjit Singh Laddi is a prominent foreign-based operative of the banned terrorist group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), a pro-Khalistan militant organisation. He is reportedly residing in Germany and is considered a key figure in coordinating BKI’s activities abroad.

Laddi is accused of orchestrating multiple violent attacks in Punjab, including targeted assaults on right-wing leaders and the assassination of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Vikas Prabhakar in April 2024. His involvement includes recruiting local operatives, arranging arms and ammunition and providing logistical and financial support.

Transnational network and leadership

Operating under the Pakistan-based leadership of BKI chief Wadhawa Singh Babbar, Laddi is part of a broader transnational conspiracy aimed at destabilising Punjab through terror activities. He maintains direct control over operatives within India despite being based overseas.

Indian authorities, led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), have declared Laddi a high-priority fugitive. A reward of Rs 10 lakh has been announced for information leading to his arrest, highlighting his significance in ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
