Fox News host Jesse Watters made a controversial statement, blaming single women for Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York’s mayoral race.

Mamdani, a democratic socialist, triumphed over former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, who was running as an independent after losing to Mamdani in the Democratic primary, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa.

With 93 percent of votes counted, Mamdani is leading with 50.4 percent of voter support, followed by Cuomo with 41.6 percent and Sliwa at 7.1 percent, as reported New York Times.

On Wednesday, during a segment of ‘The Five,’ Watters suggested that single women were the driving force behind Mamdani’s electoral success.

Let’s talk about these single women’

In the show, he stated, “So, the Mamdani coalition… a lot of them are women. So let’s talk about these single women. Because they were the force here. You are in an apartment. It’s small. It’s very small. And it’s very expensive. And you haven’t gotten married and had kids and moved out to the suburbs like everybody else.”

He further added, “So you are in a tiny apartment, and the apartment is getting really expensive because all of these migrants are here now. And it’s also expensive because of the Green New Deal, so your utilities are high, and you’ve got the wrong degree. You should have gotten a degree in, like, chemistry, biology, finance, or computer science. Something useful in this high-tech AI economy. “No, you got a degree in, like, Southeast Asian feminist literature…”

‘Weaponized misogyny’

Netizens also reacted to the post. A user noted, “This is pure, weaponized misogyny from this incel. Jesse Watters isn’t analyzing politics, he’s mocking women for existing outside his 1950s fantasy. The idea that single, educated women are the problem because they didn’t “move to the suburbs” or “marry right” says everything about Fox’s worldview. Maybe women aren’t the issue, maybe it’s the small minds still terrified of their independence.”

Another claimed, “Watters rant is exactly what happens when you try to blame voters for systemic problems. Rising rents, high utilities and economic challenges aren’t caused by single women or their degrees, they’re the result of policy choices and structural issues, not personal life choices.”

“This is so disrespectful. Republican women, are you just “pick-me” girls? Speak up when a man trashes you for being single. It’s not a crime. Meanwhile, desperate GOP creeps like Jesse flock to OnlyFans because rhetoric like this repels women and then they wonder why they’re single. Oh and btw, there are more single men than woman in the 30-34 age group buddy,” noted a user.

“Any woman, single or married, should tell you to go to hell. And this is polite. How dare you? Sexism has never been so blatant in a “TV” person. Journalist or anchor is not a word applicable to you,” stated another.
