Reports of an officer-involved shooting that took place outside the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office in Wallace, Idaho, took over social media on Friday (US time). Authorities have since addressed the issue, revealing that a suspected shooter was killed during a standoff with officers.

The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office also took to its official social media account to confirm that the online reports of an “active shooter” were “accurate.”

During a press briefing on December 26, police shared an update regarding the shooting at Idaho Sheriff’s office. As per the officials, an officer and two civilians sustained minor injuries.

Shoshone County Sheriff William Eddy disclosed that an officer was shot in the ear, while the other two people to get hurt were women sitting in a pick-up truck. Both ladies were reportedly struck in the leg.

Authorities have since declared “there is no ongoing danger to the community” via social media updates.

Despite certain claims in connection with the suspected Idaho shooter have been swirling on social media, the sheriff’s office didn’t officially name any person of interest during the press conference. Without giving away much, the official revealed during the briefing that the suspected shooter was pronounced deceased by 4:15 pm local time.

When asked about the suspect who was ultimately taken down, Eddy simply replied, “I don’t know anything him yet.” Another reporter pointed out how a certain man named ‘John Drake’ was being called out as the shooting suspect on social media.

However, the sheriff declined to confirm that information, while also branding the person who spread the unverified details “irresponsible.” Police also refuted any claims of a “hostage situation.”

When asked how the sheriff was feeling, he admitted to being “emotional,” adding, “This has kind of been a rough month. Just seems like one tragedy after another.”
