Ahead of his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, US President Donald Trump announced Thursday (American time) that he had told the Department of War, formerly Department of Defence, to promptly start carrying out tests for nuclear weapons.
His reasoning for the same was: “Because of other countries testing programs, I have instructed the Department of War to start testing our Nuclear Weapons on an equal basis.” Taking to his Truth Social platform, the MAGA leader declared the process would commence “immediately.”
Trump orders nuclear weapons testing
His major proclamation came a day after Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his country has successfully tested a Poseidon nuclear-powered super torpedo, as per Reuters. Military analysts have so far determined that it can severely impact coastal regions through radioactive ocean swells.
And so, Trump also jumped on the bandwagon and flexed efforts that would soon be initiated by the US on the nuclear scene. “Russia is second, and China is a distant third, but will be even within 5 years,” he added, while boasting the US has “more Nuclear Weapons than any other country.” As he went on to pat his back once again, Trump claimed that this massive arsenal was achieved alongside “a complete update and renovation of existing weapons” during his first presidential term.
Although he claims to have “HATED” doing it, he also asserted that he had no other choice in the matter. Long back, the Republican leader disclosed that his late uncle MIT professor John Trump had once taught him about how “nuclear is so powerful,” as per a New York Post report.
How Trump bashed Putin for using the ‘nuclear word’
Back in 2022, Trump hit out against Putin for endlessly using the “nuclear word.” During an interview on ‘Piers Morgan Uncensored,” he said, “Putin uses the ‘N-word’. I call it the ‘N-word’. He uses the ‘N-word’, the nuclear word all the time. That’s a no-no, you’re not supposed to do that. He uses it on a daily basis. And everybody’s so afraid, so afraid, so afraid. And as they’re afraid he uses it more and more. That’s why he’s doing the kind of things he’s doing right now.”
Even then he insisted on positioning the US as being “far more powerful” than Russia in the aftermath of the country’s invasion of Ukraine. When asked what he would tell the Russian leader if he was back in office, Trump added, “I would say, we have far more than you do. Far, far more powerful than you. And you can’t use that word ever again. You cannot use the nuclear word ever again. And if you do, we’re gonna have problems.”
America’s last nuclear weapon test happened in 1992.
This is a developing story.
