The United States’ airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend also ended up bombarding the firm sentiments of unity shared by those who are behind Donald Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ (MAGA) movement. While many have spoken out in favour of the US president and his authorised American involvement in global conflicts, especially the raging Israel-Iran war.

Some prominent MAGA personalities, including pro-Trump Charlie Kirk, rallied around the president and hailed his decision to take action against Iran. However, it’s to be noted that Trump’s movement also brings in more isolationist voices that are particularly focussed on the ‘America First’ agenda, which was also the prime focus of his presidential election campaign.

And so, Kirk also warned of a potential MAGA split over the Israel-Iran conflict, saying “Trump voters, especially young people, supported [him] because he was the first president in my lifetime to not start a new war.”

As is evident, many, among activists, congresspeople and others whose political bent aligns with the far-right, have argued that the decision to attack Iran or intervening in such issues has pushed their own nationalist vision to the backseat. Longtime Trump loyalists like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tucker Carlson have turned their backs on the Republican leader’s ‘Operation Midnight Hammer’ decision these past days.

Marjorie Taylor Greene still on Team Trump despite different views on war

Georgia GOP Rep MTG posted Saturday on X: “Every time America is on the verge of greatness, we get involved in another foreign war. There would not be bombs falling on the people of Israel if Netanyahu had not dropped bombs on the people of Iran first. Israel is a nuclear armed nation. This is not our fight. Peace is the answer.”

She again took to her profile to send out prayers for the safety of the US troops and Americans in the Middle East. “Let us pray that we are not attacked by terrorists on our homeland after our border was open for the past 4 years and over 2 Million gotaways came in,” MTG added.

Greene even shared the Fox News coverage of the US dropping six “bunker buster” bombs on Fordow, and noted, “MAGA is not for foreign wars.” Adding that they are not for regime change, but ‘AMERICA FIRST’ instead, she wrote, “The United States should not be involved in fighting nuclear-armed Israel’s war with Iran.”

Despite her thoughts on the issue, Marjorie Taylor Greene continues to remain “President Trump’s most outspoken ally.” Shunning claims of a divide between herself and him, she said in a separate post, “The press and some other nasty people would love to write lying headlines and create dirty rumours that there’s a break between me and President Trump. WRONG. MTG (heart emoji) DJT (American flag emoji).”

She even amplified Trump’s Truth Social announcement of an eventual “complete and total CEASEFIRE” between Israel and Iran, while thanking him for “pursuing peace.”

In the aftermath of the airstrikes, MTG additionally told CNN that she got “elected on the exact same campaign promises that President Trump got elected on.” While noting how they “promised no more foreign wars, no more regime change,” she acknowledged that Trump was risking a “very big divide” among conservative voters. Greene even pointed out that the youth was even more “skeptical” on the issue.

“When most Americans are walking around, they’re not thinking about Iran, They’re very much focused on their American life and their American problems and that’s exactly what they should be focused on,” she further asserted.

Though unhappy with US intervention, Tucker Carlson now thanking Trump

Former Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson, who’s also voiced his firm stance against the US intervention, remained rather silent on his X account after the attack on Iranian nuclear sites. And yet, he instantly jumped back into action to push a brief “Thank God” message via his profile after claims of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran came to the forefront.

Addressing the issue on his “The Tucker Carlson Show,” he again posted, “Thank God brokered a ceasefire. That’s the last thing Mark Levin wanted.” In a previous episode with US Sen Ted Cruz as his guest, Carlson again challenged the politician’s knowledge of Iran, a country he sought to “topple.”

The right-wing media personality emerged as the loudest MAGA critic of America’s intervention in the global conflict, calling on the president to redirect his focus away from a foreign war. Those responses ultimately prompted Trump to hit back at him, as he wrote on Truth Social, “Somebody please explain to kooky Tucker Carlson that IRAN CAN NEVER HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON.” The POTUS even viciously name-dropped the ex-Fox News host at the G7 Summit in Canada.

However, days later, they appeared to have resolved the issue, as Trump said that Carlson called him and apologised “because he thought he said things that were a little bit too strong.”

Steve Bannon also agrees that MAGA will back Trump no matter what

Former Trump White House advisor Steve Bannon is yet another addition to the list of MAGA critics significantly focussed on the ‘America First’ vision in this regard. On his War Room web show, he took a swipe at the Republican leader for thanking Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. “It hasn’t been lost … that he thanked Bibi Netanyahu, who I would think right now – at least the War Room’s position is – [is] the last guy on Earth you should thank,” he said.

Hitting out against Trump’s insinuation of potentially even more attacks on Iran, he said, “I’m not quite sure [it was] the talk that a lot of Maga wanted to hear. It sounded… very open-minded.” Despite his criticism of Trump’s decision on the Israel-Iran front, Bannon ultimately admitted, “the Maga movement will back Trump” even though their views on military intervention clearly oppose that of the president.
