US President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin finally sat down together Friday in Alaska to discuss a potential resolution of the Russia-Ukraine crisis. Although the results of their discussions were initially largely kept under wraps, the abruptly ended summit has left the world clawing at the bare minimum available at the moment. What has particularly ticked off the global audience is that neither of the two men entertained any questions following their meet-up.
The two world leaders’ nearly three-hour long discussion has at least sealed one thing for sure, which is that there was no deal made. As a result, the ceasefire that Trump has wanted all this while playing “peacemaker” between countries embroiled in global skirmishes is nowhere in sight.
What happened at the Trump-Putin summit in Alaska: Fox News says…
US coverage of the Trump-Putin summit has already got various news agencies putting out their reviews of the whole ordeal even though not much has been officially confirmed. And so, Fox News Senior White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich joined the conversation, laying out her verdict of what had possibly unfolded at the scene. Contrary to some, including Bill Taylor, former US Ambassador to Ukraine, suggesting that Trump had the “home advantage” during the summit, the Fox News journalist said otherwise.
Heinrich, who was on location, shared the account from her view, as she expressed her surprise about there being no questions. “You and me and everyone else in this room were surprised,” she told Brian Kilmeade, who also admitted that he was bewildered to see how “there were no details on what progress was made.”
Fox News: The way that it felt in the room was not good. It did not seem like things went well. It seems like Putin came in and steamrolled what he wanted to say. pic.twitter.com/qrd1E061mB

How things were ‘unusual’ at the Trump-Putin meeting
Jacqui claimed that they were initially told they would be presented with an opportunity to put across their questions to both presidents after a joint press conference in “the event the meeting well enough that they could set the stage for a second meeting.” The Fox News reporter further revealed that the other possibility was that, in case, the previous situation didn’t take shape, Trump would call off the joint presser and address the “media solo and send people home.” However, none of those things happened in Alaska.
She then went on to point out a number of things that she found “very unusual.” As per Heinrich’s side of the story, Putin was the first one to come out and address the press first despite them being on US soil. “That left the media scrambling to get their headsets in,” she continued. “Usually, it is the leader of the country — the host country of a summit that speaks first and addresses.” And yet, Putin took the stand and started unloading his “diatribe” about the history of the US and Russia in Russian.
All in all, Heinrich was left with the understanding that things did not go well inside, as it “seemed like Putin came in and steamrolled, got right into what he wanted to say.”
She asserted that Putin merely came in and “got his photo next to the president that we have right now.” Meanwhile, President Trump, “who is the host and who is, the president, would not want to, I think, enable something that would make him look weak.”
