US President Donald Trump took a sharp swipe at media outlets for covering ‘bad stories’ about him on Sunday — insisting that his popularity remained unparalleled. The POTUS also threatened to revoke the broadcasting licenses of ABC News and NBC News over their ‘biased’ coverage. He insisted that the two channels were unfair in their coverage of Republicans and conservatives.
Data from the Pew Research Center indicates that the approval rating of President Donald Trump fell to 38% in August — the lowest level since he took office in January 2025. Multiple polls including the Reuters/Ipsos have noted an overall downward trend over the past eight months — despite repeated claims from the POTUS about leading the greatest year in presidential history.
‘Crooked journalism should be terminated!’
“Why is it that ABC and NBC fake news, two of the absolute worst and most biased networks anywhere in the World, aren’t paying millions of dollars a year in license fees? They should lose their licenses for their unfair coverage of Republicans and/or Conservatives, but at a minimum, they should pay up BIG for having the privilege of using the most valuable airwaves anywhere at anytime! Crooked “journalism” should not be rewarded, it should be terminated!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Another post insisted that the two channels had given him “97% bad stories” — despite “a very high popularity”. Trump accused the networks of strong bias and suggested that he would be in favour of the Federal Communications Commission revoking their licenses.
“They are simply an arm of the Democrat party and should, according to many, have their licenses revoked by the FCC. I would be totally in favor of that because they are so biased and untruthful, an actual threat to our democracy!” he added.
Is news against Trump biased?
An April 2025 study by the Media Research Center suggested that 92.2% of coverage was negative during his first 100 days in office. The conservative media watchdog group said that the broadcast evening news media landscape was now “even more lopsided than it was eight years ago”. It analysed 899 stories from World News Tonight by ABC, NBC Nightly News and CBS Evening News from January 20 to April 9 to make the claim.
“President Donald Trump’s current job approval rating stands at 38%, with 60% of U.S. adults expressing disapproval of his performance. This is a modest decline from two months ago, when 41% approved. And perceptions of some of Trump’s personal traits are more negative than they were following his election victory (or in 2024 pre-election polling),” the non-partisan Pew Research Center assessed earlier this month.
