Reports of a shooting incident unleashing chaos in Times Square started pouring in on social media early Saturday, August 9 (US time). According to a video now going viral on X, a camera-recorded account shows people running in the other direction. The incident took place in the heart of the popular American destination merely hours after a gunman left Atlanta, Georgia, reeling from a similar horror, opening fire near Emory University.
The New York Police Department has since confirmed to Newsweek that the gunshots were fired at around 1:20 am ET on Saturday at the intersection between West 44th Street and 7th Avenue. Officials further revealed that three victims had been left injured. As per The Daily Mail, a witness also shared on social media that they had seen a “shot up” vehicle left with bullet holes in its windows.
Times Square shooter was underage? NYPD says…
“Three people have been shot in the heart of Times Square. Bodies are on the ground, bullet holes pierce car windows,” the social media user tweeted. “The chaos unfolded near a major tourist area. One suspect is in custody.”
Authorities have since been on the mission the lock the area down. A suspect was eventually taken into custody.
The supposed eyewitness to have shared the initial video – ‘Viral News NYC’ on X – subsequently pushed an update, alleging that the suspected NYC shooter was a minor. As a matter of fact, the NYPD also went on to later confirm that a 17-year-old was behind the attack that unfolded after a “dispute” broke out between two people in Times Square.
The victims wounded in the shooting attack were an 18-year-old girl, a 19-year-old male and a 65-year-old man, as quoted by The Mirror US.

It comes nearly two weeks after Shane Tamura went on a deadly rampage in a Manhattan high-rise building that houses the NFL headquarters. After firing at multiple people, he shot himself in the chest, and was found dead at the 33rd floor of the same skyscraper.
