Far-right activist and Trump supporter Laura Loomer, who often shares her views on immigration and other government policies, has surprisingly criticised the Trump administration’s recent decision to allow Qatar to operate a military training facility at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho. Loomer called the move a betrayal of “America First” and said it endangered US national security.

Laura Loomer rages over Qatar military facility in the US

In a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter), Loomer described the decision as “unbelievable” and said no true Trump supporter would back it. “Never thought I’d see Republicans give terror-financing Muslims from Qatar a military base on US soil.” She also said she would not vote in 2026 if the party continued along this path. “I cannot in good conscience make any excuses for the harbouring of jihadis,” she added. She called the decision to let Qatar operate a military facility on US soil an “abomination” and questioned how it fits with the goal to “Make America Safe Again.” Loomer claimed that allowing people she labels as funders of Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood to train on American soil is not only dangerous but completely at odds with protecting the country.

Loomer’s posts went viral, as she is typically a staunch supporter of the Trump administration and the party’s policies. Thousands flocked to the comments section, sparking heated discussions among right-wing groups. Some social media users even claimed she was leaving the GOP, a post retweeted by conservative strategist Roger Stone. Loomer fired back: “What has the GOP ever done for me? Nothing. My focus has been on the people, and MAGA.”

She added, “There isn’t a single Trump supporter who supports allowing Qatar to have a military base on US soil. I don’t know who told President Trump this was a good idea, but it has made people not want to vote. This is the type of thing I would expect from a President Ilhan Omar.”

What’s the deal between the US and Qatar?

The controversy comes from a Pentagon announcement earlier this week. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth met with Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman al-Thani, at the Pentagon. Hegseth said Qatar would station F-15 fighter jets and pilots at Mountain Home Air Force Base to improve joint training, combat skills, and cooperation between the two forces.

However, he clarified that Qatar will not own or control a base in the US, instead, the facility will remain under American command, similar to arrangements with other allies. The plan has been in the works for years. For the unversed, Qatar already hosts the largest US military base in the Middle East, Al-Udeid, and has often acted as a mediator in the region. Recently, it also acted as a mediator during the Israel-Hamas ceasefire talks.

Laura Loomer’s political journey

Laura Loomer previously ran for Florida’s 21st Congressional District in 2020 and 2022. She lost both Republican primaries. Loomer is known for her racial remarks and outspoken views on immigration, Islam, and national security.

On Friday, Lommer posted multiple tweets starting with attacking China, accusing the country of causing massive harm to Americans with a bioweapon. “I guess they forgot about how China MURDERED 1.2 million Americans with a bio weapon. Thank God we have 500,000 of their SPIES studying in our colleges in America, though!” she tweeted. She then urged Trump’s government not to let “Chinese spies and Muslim terrorists into our country ever again. I am just so pissed. It hit me so hard today. I just can’t get over how angry I am about all of this.”

Hours later, she unleashed a social media firestorm, targeting the government and slamming the decision with back-to-back tweets, including: “Will Qatari pilots be allowed to use test ranges? Are they going to be allowed to carry bombs while flying in the US?” “Why are we rewarding Qatar for funding Islamic terrorists who murdered US citizens?” and “There is 100% something controversial about training the funders of Hamas how to fly fighter jets on US soil. It’s un-American and very dangerous.”
