US President Donald Trump has set a 3 to 4 day deadline for Hamas to accept a new peace proposal for Gaza. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Trump said the plan had already gained support from Arab, Muslim, and Israeli leaders.

He said that the next few days would be crucial in determining whether the conflict in Gaza could be resolved. Trump warned that if Hamas refuses the plan, “it’s going to be a very sad end” and promised that Hamas would “pay in hell” for rejecting it.

Netanyahu’s statement

The proposal, which was presented alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, urges Hamas to disarm and surrender in exchange for several key measures.

Netanyahu stated, “I support your plan to end the war in Gaza, which achieves our war aims,” adding, “If Hamas rejects your plan, Mr President, or if they supposedly accept it and then basically do everything to counter it, then Israel will finish the job by itself.”

What are the key aspects of the 20 points peace proposal?

If both Israel and Hamas agree, the war will stop immediately. Israeli forces will pull back, and hostages will be returned within 72 hours, both living and dead.

In return, Israel will release 250 Palestinian prisoners and 1,700 Gazans who were arrested after the conflict began. For every Israeli hostage’s remains are returned, Israel will release the remains of 15 dead Gazans.

Hamas members who agree to peace and lay down their arms will be forgiven, and those who want to leave Gaza will be allowed to go to other countries safely.

A team of international leaders, including Trump, will oversee the process to ensure fairness. Meanwhile, Gaza will be temporarily governed by a group of Palestinians and outside experts, helping guide the area toward stability and peace.

The war in Gaza was triggered by an attack by Hamas on October 7, 2023. The attack killed 1,219 people in Israel.
