US Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene announced plans to resign from office following an intense spat with President Donald Trump. The long-term MAGA ally had recently turned against the POTUS over his stance on the Epstein files, foreign policy and health care. Greene explained in a lengthy social upload that she did not want her congressional district “to endure a hurtful and hateful primary” that pitted her against the POTUS. A furious Trump had branded her a ‘traitor’ earlier this week and vowed to endorse a challenger if she ran for re-election.

‘Loyalty should be a two-way street’

“My life is filled with happiness, and my true convictions remain unchanged, because my self-worth is not defined by a man, but instead by God…Loyalty should be a two-way street and we should be able to vote our conscience and represent our district’s interest, because our job title is literally representative,” said Greene.

“I have too much self-respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms I refuse to be a “battered wife” hoping it all goes away and gets better,” she added.

‘Great news for the country’: Trump

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the resignation announcement was “great news for the country”. The White House is yet to comment formally on the announcement.

“I think it’s great news for the country. It’s great. Nah (she didn’t give me a heads up), it doesn’t matter, you know but I think it’s great. I think she should be happy,” Trump told ABC News.
