Chandraprabha Singh, a 44-year-old woman of Indian origin, was arrested earlier this month in North Carolina after being charged with felony assault for allegedly attacking her husband with a knife, WBTV reported. Singh, an assistant teacher at Endhaven Elementary School, has since been suspended with pay by the school district.
Charlotte teacher arrested for knife attack
According to WBTV, Singh was charged with assault with a “deadly weapon” causing serious injury to her husband, Arvind Singh. The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, October 12. The arrest warrant states she “unlawfully, willfully, feloniously” cut another person. Police arrived at Foxhaven Drive around 10:49 am on October 12 after a report of an assault. By the time officers arrived, Singh’s husband, Arvind, had already been taken to the hospital with a serious neck injury.
Singh was initially denied bond by a magistrate but later had her bond approved at $10,000 during an October 13 court appearance, WBTV reported. She was also appointed a public defender at that time. After posting bond, Singh was released from jail on Monday. She was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and avoid any contact with her husband.
According to an affidavit, Singh told investigators the injury was “accidental,” claiming she was preparing breakfast and turned around with a knife in her hand, unintentionally harming her husband. Her husband, however, told 911 that she “was frustrated and purposely attacked him with the knife.” He claimed the argument turned violent because he had not cleaned the house.
