How can you celebrate Independence in the US?

Numerous exciting events hosted by Indian Consulates and local communities mark Indian Independence day celebrations in the United States.

Flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural events, and formal receptions are frequently held at consulates in places like New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Houston, and Atlanta. India Day Parades, like the famous Federation of Indian Associations’ Parade in New York City and the vibrant India Day Parade in Fremont, California, which includes tricolour floats, Bollywood stars, and food vendors, are major highlights.

Regional cultural organisations, student organisations, and local Indian associations, such as the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) also host patriotic plays, dance contests, and concerts.

How can you celebrate Independence day?

No matter where you live, there are many enjoyable and significant ways to commemorate Indian Independence Day. Organise a movie night with classics like Rang De Basanti, Lagaan, or Swades, or make a playlist of patriotic tunes by A.R. Rahman and Lata Mangeshkar.

Make tricolor-themed dishes like coconut kheer, spinach tikki, and saffron rice to transform the day into an Indian Cooking Day. Dress in the orange, white, and green national colours, and use paper buntings, flags, and tricolour cupcakes or other themed desserts to adorn your house or place of business.

Arrange a quiz night centred on India’s history and accomplishments for a more interesting and powerful celebration, or post motivational Independence Day tales on social media to spread the word.

Organising a charity drive to aid Indian NGOs working in rural development or education is another way to give back.

If you would rather participate virtually, you can watch the Prime Minister’s Red Fort speech on Doordarshan or YouTube, or you can attend virtual cultural events that are hosted by diaspora communities worldwide.
