Indian-origin Zohran Mamdani couldn’t help but take a sardonic swipe at his-ever-so-active critic Donald Trump’s supposed endorsement of his front-running rival Andrew Cuomo. The Democratic New York City mayoral hopeful took to his official social media accounts merely hours ago, giving a shout-out to the US president’s unprecedented support pitch for the former Democratic governor.
The Google search link attached to his Instagram post entitled it: “Trump Endorses Andrew Cuomo: A Historic Moment in US…” Meanwhile, Mamdani turned to the contending politician he defeated in the previous Democratic Primary, and said, “Congratulations, Andrew Cuomo. I know how hard you worked for this.”
Did Trump really endorse Andrew Cuomo?
What many, like Mamdani, viewed as Trump “hard-launching” his endorsement of Andrew Cuomo for the NYC mayor’s post, was actually based on a twisted response captured during the president’s recent CBS News interview. The Democratic socialist assemblyman’s reaction trickled in on social media hot on the heels of Trump’s questionable admission during his Sunday ’60 Minutes’ interaction with host Norah O’Donnell.
When questioned about the potential sight of Zohran Mamdani becoming the Big Apple’s mayor, the Republican POTUS admitted that it would become “hard” for him to given “a lot of money” to New York.
Interrupting the anchor as she called Mamdani a “Democratic socialist,” Trump branded the mayoral candidate a “communist.” Lobbying against the Indian-origin assemblyman, he said that pitching in money for such a man was equivalent to “wasting” it. While dragging Mamdani, Trump didn’t mince his words while speaking about his rival either.
“I’m not a fan of Cuomo one way or the other,” the POTUS said of the former governor now running as an Independent. “But if it’s going to be between a bad Democrat and a Communist, I’m going to pick the bad Democrat all the time.”
Ahead of the November 4 mayoral race’s conclusion, the MAGA leader asserted Mamdani was “far worse than a socialist.” Challenging any and all comparisons between himself and the mayoral hopeful, Trump added during the interview, “Well, I think I’m a much better-looking person than him, right?” The 79-year-old even went on to compare him to predecessor Bill de Blasio, who, according to Trump is “the worst mayor in history.”

Andrew Cuomo on Trump ‘taking over’ NYC
Mamdani’s dig at Cuomo follows remarks his contender made in late October during a podcast appearance. At the time, the Independent mayoral candidate told host Stephen A Smith that Trump was bound to “take over” New York City if Zohran became the mayor.
“President Trump needs an excuse to act, right? He doesn’t just send the National Guard,” Cuomo told the NBA analyst. “He sends the National guard as a power play. He’s making a statement.”
Suggesting that the commander-in-chief’s actions suggested that Democrats have no clue how to run a city. “They’re dangerous, these Democrats. I have to send in the National Guard to take care of the people in Portland and take care of the people in LA because the Democrats don’t know what they’re doing,” Cuomo said of Trump’s point of view.
He further insisted that the president needed that “hook” to green-light such aggressive measures, and Mamdani gave him that “hook on steroids.”
The latest development in the NYC mayoral election chaos comes after it was reported that former US President Barack Obama admiringly told Mamdani his campaign has been “impressive to watch” during a phone call, according to the New York Times.
