French President Emmanuel Macron had an unexpected delay in New York City on Monday, September 22, after speaking at the 80th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Macron had just left the UN building, where he announced France’s recognition of the State of Palestine.

But as he tried to move toward his next destination, he was stopped by the motorcade of US President Donald Trump. A New York police officer told him politely, “I’m sorry, Mr President, everything is blocked right now.”

Macron calls Trump

Instead of getting frustrated, Macron made a quick call to President Trump. He joked, “Guess what? I’m stuck in the street because everything’s blocked for you.”

The street was later cleared, but only for pedestrians which made Macron to stand in the middle of the street while continuing his conversation with Trump, before finally making his way to the French Embassy on foot.

‘Imagine the policeman’s stress’

Netizens posted their comments on the post, A user stated, “Imagine the policeman’s stress.” Another added, “Trump really knows how to cause a scene on the streets, so much so that even other heads of state have to wait. It’s a symbol that New York only has one king of the road.”

“Trump blocking traffic like it’s still his White House driveway,” added another. “Not so impressive, he should have put the policeman on the phone,” wrote a user.

“I know his security was stressed tf out,” added a netizen. “Wait…. the French President had to stop because of Trump? That’s wild. Protocol chaos at the UN,” claimed another.
