US President Donald Trump may be feeling the impact of his high-profile and very public feud with tech billionaire Elon Musk, as his approval rating has slipped to 47%, down three points from May, according to a new Daily Mail/JL Partners poll.
The clash over a proposed spending bill hasn’t just affected Trump. Musk’s image has also taken a hit, with 56% of respondents viewing him unfavorably and only 34% seeing him positively. Yet, when asked to pick sides, more Americans still back Trump over Musk—31% to 23%, but nearly half of them remain undecided.
JL Partners/Daily Mail poll
As mentioned above, the new poll by JL Partners and the Daily Mail, which was held on June 6 with 1,006 registered voters, shows that 47% of people approve of Trump’s performance, while 53% do not. This gives him a net approval rating of minus 6. This is a drop from 50% approval in May, but still better than April, when his approval was at a second-term low of 45%. The margin of error for both polls is 3.1 percentage points.
YouGov/Economist Poll
The Newsweek report further cited the YouGov/Economist poll, which was held between June 6 and June 9 among 1,533 adults. It shows that 43% of people approve of Trump, which is a drop from 45% the week before. Meanwhile, 52% now disapprove of him, up from 49% the previous week. The poll has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
ActiVote poll
Some polls have shown Trump’s approval rating going down, but this doesn’t match the overall trend in recent weeks, where his approval has slowly gone up after the controversy over his “Liberation Day” tariffs.
One example is the latest ActiVote poll, which shows 46% of people approve of Trump, while 50% disapprove.
This is a slight improvement from last month, when 45% approved and 51% disapproved. It also ends a pattern where his approval rating had been falling every month since January this year.
