Korean restaurant shooter, victim identified
On Wednesday evening, investigators named 45-year-old Jacqueline Medrano of Covina as the victim of the California shooting. Meanwhile, 35-year-old Jonathan Wang of Long Beach was identified as the suspected shooter. Officials further revealed that the pair had previously been romantically involved with each other.
Both Medrano and Wang were found with serious injuries before they were declared dead at the scene. “Based on preliminary information, the incident appears to be a targeted attack of murder-suicide,” La Habra Police official said in a news release dated October 15. “Mr Wang shot Ms. Medrano before dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
California murder-suicide’s victim and shooter died at the scene
Although the investigation is still ongoing, the police doesn’t seem to be considering any other person as a possibly involved suspect. As far as the alleged Korean restaurant shooter’s past is concerned, investigators have since learned that the Los Angeles Superior Court issued a criminal protective order against Wang on September 16.
As per the official notice, Jonathan was ordered not to contact his reported ex-romantic partner, Jacqueline Medrano, who is also the victim of the shocking incident. Authorities also noted that the order was still in place at the time of unprecedented development at the Orange County mall.
The Korean restaurant gunman is said to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot, as he pointed the weapon at himself after taking aim at Medrano.
According to a report by local Los Angeles news outlet KTLA 5, no one else at the restaurant was injured during the incident despite multiple people (including staff and customers) having witnessed the attack first-hand.
