The West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn became the target location for a new US shooting incident on Monday, September 1 (US time), as per the New York Police Department. At least six people were shot and one was slash with a cutting instrument in what are currently being deemed separate incident across multiple locations, according to Fox5NY’s report.
Attracting hundreds of thousands of participants, the annual parade began at 11 am on Utica Avenue near Lincoln Terrace Park amid the increased NYPD presence. Despite the beefed-up security, these violent undertaking took place across four locations in Crown Heights between late afternoon and early evening.

Of the separate incidents, the first one came to light around 5:35 pm. A woman in her 40s was grazed in the lower back near 1098 Eastern Parkway, according to authorities. Another man in his 20s was struck in the leg around the same location.
Two men were hit in the shoulder near Classon Avenue and Eastern Parkway at 6:46 pm. Just minutes later, a 53-year-old man was shit in the neck and leg outside Yard Pot Restaurant and Bakery. Thereafter, a 40-year-old woman was hit in the ankle.
While some shooting victims were transported to King County Hospital, others arrived by private means. Except the 53-year-old man, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition, all others were in stable condition.
In addition to those shot, a man was slashed at Eastern Parkway and Nostrand Avenue around 6:12 pm. Despite sustaining multiple injuries, the victim turned down any medical assistance, while also remaining uncooperative with authorities.

As of now, a person of interest has been taken into custody. However, other details in connection with the case are awaited. Authorities have yet to determine if the incidents were connected.
Neither the identities of the victims nor that of the arrested person has been revealed yet. Word is also awaited on the charges.
