US President Donald Trump announced several deals with Qatar worth over $243.5 billion. The agreements were signed during Trump’s visit to Qatar and cover sectors like aviation, energy, defense, and advanced technology. One of the biggest deals was a major sale by Boeing and GE Aerospace to Qatar Airways, which is the largest order ever for Boeing’s widebody planes.

Trump’s $96bn Boeing deal with Qatar

As Donald Trump faced strong criticism for his plan to accept a $400 million luxury jet from the Qatari government, he went ahead and announced a major deal for Boeing to sell 210 planes to Qatar, The Guardian reported.

The $96 billion contract, revealed during Trump’s visit to Doha on Wednesday, is the biggest order ever for Boeing’s widebody aircraft. According to the White House, this deal is expected to support 154,000 jobs in the US each year, although it’s not clear how that number was determined.

“Today in Qatar, President Donald J. Trump signed an agreement with Qatar to generate an economic exchange worth at least USD 1.2 trillion. President Trump also announced economic deals totalling more than USD 243.5 billion between the United States and Qatar, including a historic sale of Boeing aircraft and GE Aerospace engines to Qatar Airways,” The White House said in a statement on Wednesday.

US-Qatar deals worth over $243 billion

Qatar Airways’ purchase of Boeing planes was the main highlight of several deals signed in Doha, which together were worth over $243 billion. Trump also got a statement of intent from Qatar to invest more than $38 billion in future defense deals, The Guardian report said. Undoubtedly, these agreements strengthen both the economic and military ties between the US and Qatar, which is also offering Trump a luxury aircraft.

The White House said that Qatar plans to invest up to $1 billion in advanced quantum technology and workforce training through a joint project. This investment will support jobs and leadership in both the US and Qatar in this important new field.

The White House also explained that the new defense agreements show President Trump’s goal to increase Qatar’s defense spending as part of the US-Qatar security partnership. These deals will improve security in the region and benefit American industries. Qatar will buy advanced military equipment from two top US defense companies.

Qatar – First international buyer of Raytheon’s counter-drone tech

Raytheon, a part of RTX, signed a $1 billion deal to sell Qatar counter-drone technology. This makes Qatar the first international buyer of Raytheon’s special defense system designed to stop small unmanned drones.

General Atomics signed a nearly $2 billion deal to provide Qatar with the MQ-9B remotely piloted aircraft system. This agreement, made between the US and Qatar government, will strengthen their partnership and give Qatar’s military one of the most advanced drones in the world, built with American-made parts.
