On the third day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, top Democratic leaders strongly criticised Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, labeling him as an “agent of chaos” and warning that his failed policies would set America back. The convention focused on portraying Trump as a significant threat and highlighting Vice President Kamala Harris as the ideal leader for the nation. Harris, 59, is set to challenge former President Trump, 78, in the upcoming November 5 election.

Trump’s divisive politics

In his address, former President Bill Clinton stated, “Trump, a model of inconsistency, is divisive, blames others, and belittles. He creates chaos for show, but that isn’t leadership.” He emphasised that Harris is the only candidate with the vision, experience, temperament, and will to lead the country.

Clinton also pointed out that Trump mainly uses his voice to talk about himself, driven by vengeance, vendettas, complaints, and conspiracies. “When he speaks, don’t bother counting the lies—count the ‘I’s. He’s like a tenor warming up: me, me, me. Kamala Harris, on the other hand, is focused on you,” he remarked.

Republican tax scam

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries accused Trump of orchestrating the Republican tax scam, where 83% of the benefits went to the wealthiest 1% of Americans. He also criticised Trump’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and labeled him an agent of chaos more concerned with himself than with the American people. Jeffries further condemned Trump for lying about the election and inciting a violent mob to attack the Capitol, attempting to undermine democracy.

Trump blamed for Jan 6 riots

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described January 6th as a dangerous moment for American democracy, accusing Trump of brazenly attacking its foundations, embracing political violence, and betraying his oath of office.
Terming the Capitol riot as an “attack on democracy”, Pelosi said, “Let us not forget who assaulted democracy on January 6, 2021. It was him. But let us also remember who defended it that day. We did.”

Senator Chris Coons remarked that hate and division are the driving forces behind Trump and J.D. Vance’s politics, labeling them as “weird” and “weak.” New Jersey Senator Cory Booker accused Trump of betraying America’s ideals, viciously attacking both Democrats and Republicans, with his insults knowing no bounds—from John McCain’s military service to Nikki Haley’s heritage, to women, people with disabilities, transgender individuals, and veterans.

Booker noted that Trump’s politics is not based on inspiration but on fear and that Harris and her running mate Walz bring joy to the people of America.
