Prominent businessman and writer Suhel Seth delivered a fiery speech before the British House of Commons on Friday — highlighting the transformation of India since 1947. The managing partner of Counselage India also highlighted the crucial role played by the country in shaping the British legacy during his address.

“It feels so good to be in England….You museums have everything from our country. Our food is your national food and even education is similar. We gave you a great Prime Minister in Rishi Sunak…and we’ll give you many more,” Seth can be heard saying as shocked laughter breaks out.

The well-known columnist also cited his close work with the Tata Group — noting that the conglomerate was the “largest employer in Britain”. He said that the data spoke strongly of the commitment made by Indian industries to Great Britain and adjoining territories.

Formation of a ‘new India’

He also highlighted the formation of a “new India” and the “civilizational legacy” held by the country during the short speech. Seth hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leading the developmental journey of India and

“The purpose of this conclave is for Great Britain to understand that India has come a long way. It is no longer the India of 1947. It isn’t even the India of 1991…and even less the India of 2030. I’m delighted that we have Narendra Modi as our prime minister — who has shown to every Indian, whether he is in India or outside, that India today can stand up and be counted,” he said.

Why was Suhel Seth addressing the UK Parliament?

Seth spoke at a special conclave involving UK Members of Parliament in London — held inside the House of Commons premises. It was a themed interaction on India–UK relations and India’s global rise with many prominent guests in attendance.
