US President Donald Trump posted a video on the social media platform X, showing an American airstrike targeting Houthi militants in Yemen. The video has quickly attracted millions of views, depicting a precision strike on a group of individuals reported to gather together for an attack. Trump posted the footage along with a caption: ‘’These Houthis gathered for instructions on an attack. Oops, there will be no attack by these Houthis! They will never sink our ships again!

This development takes place following a series of escalated US military operations targeting Houthi positions in Yemen. The Houthi rebels, supported by Iran, have been involved in several attacks conducted on military vessels and on commercial vessels in the Red Sea. They claim that their action is in respect to solidarity with Palestinians during the Gaza conflict. In return, the US has conducted more than 200 strikes since mid-March. They aim to deteriorate the Houthi’s operational capabilities, as reported by the Associated Press. A recent airstrike in Hodeidah reportedly led to the killing of 70 Houthi militants, including main commanders and experts from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

US military ongoing action against Houthis

Meanwhile, the US has strengthened its military presence in the region by positioning ships, missile defense systems, and warplanes. According to a Business Insider report, to combat threats posed by Iran, the US has extended the USS Harry S Truman’s deployment and the USS Carl Vinson carrier strike group.

The US has stated that these military actions are crucial to safeguard its interest and ensure maritime security, but on the other hand, there is growing concern related to the humanitarian impact on Yemen civilians. Rights groups have reported that the increasing bombing attacks have worsened the already dire humanitarian conditions in Yemen, resulting in civilian casualties of civilians.

Recently, the Pentagon’s Office of Inspector General ordered an investigation into Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s use of a commercial messaging app during the planning of sensitive military operations. The probe focus will be on Hegseth’s reported usage of the texting platform Signal while discussing the March 15 US airstrikes on Houthis targets in Yemen.
