Sirens rang out across central Israel on Tuesday after a projectile crossed from Lebanon, landing in open ground, according to a statement by the Israeli military, reported Reuters.
The alarm was sounded in the Samaria region and Modi’in Illit, the army said. This incident adds to the ongoing tension along Israel’s northern border, where the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified in recent weeks.
Since the start of the Gaza war, Israel’s multi-layered air defense systems have successfully intercepted the majority of missiles and drones targeting the country. The conflict between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah escalated last year when Hezbollah began firing rockets into northern Israel in support of the Palestinian group Hamas, triggering the Gaza war.
In retaliation, Israel has bombed multiple Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, including Beirut’s southern suburbs and the Bekaa Valley, resulting in the deaths of many of Hezbollah’s senior leaders. Israeli ground troops have also crossed into Lebanese territory, while Hezbollah has responded by launching rockets deeper into Israel.
The situation remains volatile as the conflict continues to escalate, drawing concerns over broader regional stability.
