Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday hailed a US panel report which was submitted to the United States Congress, because it reportedly backed Pakistan’s claims about its “military success over India” in May, according to PTI. However, China dismissed the report calling it “misinformation”. Sharif also hailed the “exemplary performance” of Pakistan’s armed forces under Army chief General Asim Munir, reported Dawn.

Shehbaz says US Congress report backs Pakistan’s battlefield claims

The document released by the US-China Economic and Security Review Commission, studied the May clash and stated that “Pakistan’s military success over India in its-four day clash showcased Chinese weaponry.” The commission report mentioned that the confrontation followed India’s air strikes on Locations in Punjab and Azad Kashmir on May 7, which New Delhi linked to an attack on tourists in occupied Kashmir. This allegation was rejected by Islamabad. After a series of retaliatory strikes by both sides, a ceasefire was announced on May 10.

Pakistan PM also claimed that US President Donald Trump had “acknowledged multiple times that Pakistan downed seven Indian aircraft” during the confrontation. He further added that the armed forces’ effort had “brought the enemy to its knees, by the grace of God.”

China rejects the commission’s document

While Islamabad celebrated the report’s findings, Beijing responded sharply to its inclusion of claims about China’s alleged disinformation efforts. Replying to the questions in Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated, “This so-called ‘commission’ that you mentioned always harbours ideological bias against China and has no credibility to speak off.” She further added that “the commission’s report itself is disinformation,” as quoted by PTI.

Mao was also specifically asked about the report’s allegation that Beijing mounted a “disinformation campaign” targeting French Rafale jets to promote its own J-35 fighter aircraft following the conflict. She rejected this assertion outright.

India, meanwhile, launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pok following the Pahalgam attack in which 26 civilians were killed.
