Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held bilateral talks in Beijing on Wednesday, following their joint appearance at a once-in-a-decade military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The leaders met at the Diaoyutai state guest house after attending the ceremony in Tiananmen Square alongside Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Notably, Putin and Kim travelled to the negotiations in the same car, according to a statement released by the Kremlin, highlighting deeping partnership between Moscow and Pyongyang.
Kim told Putin that cooperation had advanced significantly since the June 2024 treaty between their countries and urged efforts to broaden ties further. Kim, during the meeting, pledged to “do everything I can to assist” Russia. Putin, in turn, thanked North Korean troops for what he described as their “courageous fighting” alongside Russian forces in Ukraine.
