On Tuesday, Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will embark on a five-day visit to China. He will hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and “jointly draw a blueprint” to boost bilateral ties further.

Also, both countries seek to upgrade cooperation under the multi-billion dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

From June 4 to 8, Sharif will be in China on the invitation of Chinese President Xi Jinping, said Pakistan’s Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch on Friday.

The visit seeks to improve cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project. Both nations are looking forward to launching the project’s second phase.

A decade ago, the CPEC was launched. Many energy and infrastructure projects have already been completed.

For Sharif, this will be the first visit to China after he took over as the PM of the country in March. In addition to Beijing, Sharif (72) will visit Shaanxi and Guangdong provinces in China.

India firmly opposes the CPEC. The project will link Xinjiang in China and the Gwadar port in Pakistan. It will pass via Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK).

Pak PM’s visit to Beijing is taking place at a time when Pakistan is facing a severe economic crisis with foreign exchange reserves continuing to remain at a low level.
