Pakistan faced an internet disruption on Friday, April 26, across the country due to damaged sea cables, resulting in a major setback for users, ARY News reported.

It is anticipated that the restoration process will take about a month’s time to get back to its initial condition.

Less than 10% of internet traffic originates from the east, and Pakistani users have complained about difficulty accessing the internet, especially at night.

However, eastward traffic was majorly disrupted by both Transworld and PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited). To mitigate the effects, PTCL has redirected internet traffic from the eastern direction to other channels.

What happened?

The fibre optic cable that connects Pakistan and Europe to Singapore was discovered to be broken in multiple places.

Sources close to the issue claimed that five cuts on the fibre optic underwater cable severely affected internet services, notably those that were routed from the east.

Further, the users may face problems until the fibre optic network is entirely restored.
