Yet another Pakistan explosion made headlines within the stretch of a few days. Several passengers were injured as a blast shook the Peshawar-bound Jaffar Express in the Sindh province near Somarwah, according to railway police officials quoted by PTI.

The militant group called Baloch Republican Guards has since taken responsibility for the explosion on Tuesday, October 7. “Today the freedom fighters of the Baloch Republican Guards (BRG) targeted the Jaffar Express with a remote-controlled IED explosion at Sultan Kot, a location between Shikarpur and Jacobabad,” the group said in a statement.

According to the terrorist group’s account of the incident, the train was struck when “personnel of the occupying Pakistani Army were travelling on board.” The Baloch Republican Guards further claimed that the explosion resulted in the the death and injuries of several soldiers, in addition to the derailment of at least six train coaches.

Pakistan’s Jaffar Express repeatedly attacked

Videos of the aftermath circulating on social media, along with initial assessments, suggested that the railway track has suffered major damage. The train operating from Quetta and Peshawar has been the target of numerous attacks in the recent past. The latest hit comes merely weeks after six bogies of the same train were derailed in Balochistan.

The most prominent attack in recent history can be traced back to March, when the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) hijacked it, leaving at least 21 passengers and 4 security officers dead. All militants believed to have contributed to the attack were ultimately killed by Pakistan forces.

This is an ongoing investigation. Confirmed casualty figures and more details awaited.
