US President Donald Trump‘s childhood home in NYC reportedly sold at a massive loss earlier this month. The 78-year-old POTUS’ father, Fred Trump – a real estate developer – built the two-story home in Queens’ affluent neighbourhood of Jamaica Estates in 1940. The Trump family welcomed the present-day president into their lives six years later. He eventually spent the first four years of his life in the Tudor-style home before moving to a larger house with a similar architecture style in the same neighbourhood.
According to Brooklyn-based 1388 Group’s sale records obtained by The New York Post last week, the five-bedroom house on Wareham Place went off-market for $835,000 on March 3, 2025. The final deal suffered a 40% loss compared to the $2.14 million price tag attached to the house’s 2017 sale.
Donald Trump’s childhood home was once rented out to tourists
An LLC called ‘Trump Birth House’ scooped up the property in 2017 from flipper Michael Davis, according to Mansion Global. At one point, they are believed to have briefly put up the home as an $815-a-night Airbnb rental. Guests were allowed to sleep in a bedroom with a plaque mentioning that it was where “President Donald J. Trump was likely conceived.”
The previous owners instated a life-size cutout of the president to attract tourists. They even launched a crowd-funding campaign in 2021 through Paramount Realty USA to raise $3 million, buy the house and donate it to Trump. “Love Trump? Thank President Trump by contributing to this campaign to buy his childhood home in his honour,” read their GoFundMe Page at the time. Their attempt to gift him his childhood house ultimately failed.
Davis, in turn, snapped up the place after Trump’s 2016 election win for $1.14 million, which was double the $782,500 it sold for in 2008.
US president’s former NYC home has been vacant for years
Then-young Donald Trump’s home features a detached garage. It has mostly been left stranded since its 2017 sale. With up to 30 feral cats living in the abandoned space, the NYC house fell into disrepair. However, a photographer’s recent visit to the house revealed its severely gutted interior.
The Republican leader’s childhood home has remained unoccupied for years. Retaining their anonymity, a neighbour told the US-based outlet, “A beautiful house was left abandoned and no one took care of it for all this time. No one occupied it, no one used it and it was left as an eyesore and we, the community, had to take care of it.”
Although the renovation work has reportedly finally commenced, the dilapidated house’ basement is filled with mold due to a water pipe explosion.
