Signing another executive order on Friday, President Donald Trump shone light on the brand-new program, centred around self-deportation from the US, called “Project Homecoming.” The latest development on the immigration crackdown scene in America facilitates travel for undocumented migrants to fly out of the country at no cost. An “exit bonus” for the migrants in question seeks to incentivise the process of leaving the United States.
“We are making it as easy as possible for illegal aliens to leave America, Donald Trump said in a Truth Social video. “Any illegal alien can simply show up at an airport and receive a free flight out of our country.” He also informed that the procedure would be facilitated via the Department of Homeland Security’s new CBP Home app.
What is Project Homecoming? Self-deportation incentivised
In addition to allowing illegal immigrants to book a free flight to any foreign country “as long as it’s not here,” Trump said alluded to the “exit bonus,” saying it will “save Americas taxpayers billions and billions of dollars.” The DHS previously established that the amount offered would be $1,000 per-migrant. The US president then boasted that when all undocumented migrants are gone, the country will have saved trillions of dollars.
Finally, he asserted, “We want you out of America,” adding, “If you’re really good, we’re going to try and help you get back in.”
In an official statement, the White House said that by encouraging these voluntary departures, Project Homecoming aims to “reduce these costs and restore resources for American citizens.” The official message was backed with figures from 2023, estimating that the illegal migrants’ presence in the US cost taxpayers over $150 billion.
