First Lady Melania Trump’s wedding dress is not up for auction on eBay, according to a WWD report citing a source. The buzz around her wedding dress gained momentum after an eBay seller claimed that she was selling a remnant of Melania’s wedding day dress. The eBay seller said that she purchased a Dior dress from Melania Trump for $70,000 (a little over Rs 60 lakh) in 2010 and made minor alterations to wear it as her own wedding gown.
As per WWD, the original John Galliano-designed Dior haute couture gown is kept in Mar-a-Lago, Donald Trump’s private club and residence in Florida.
What does the eBay listing say?
The eBay listing pitched as “Melania Trump wedding dress designed by John Galliano and Dior” has bids starting at $45,000 (over Rs 38 lakh). The seller claims the dress is “pre-owned” and in “good” condition but may have some signs of wear.
The seller claimed that she altered the wedding gown so that she could fit herself in. “Because Melania Trump was a size 0-2, I had to have this dress made a little bigger, as I was a size 4-6,” the listing on eBay stated.
She further claimed, “I purchased this dress from Melania in 2010 for $70,000.00 for my own wedding. I added a new layer of satin to the bottom of the dress and a few more embroidery pieces on the top, plus there was a new layer of fabric that was added to the back of the dress and straps as my chest is much bigger than Melania’s.”
The seller also uploaded photos of Melania Trump in the original gown and others of the dress she claims to be selling.

According to the seller, the wedding dress was worn twice. Once at Melania and Donald Trump’s 2005 wedding and again at her own wedding in 2011.
“It’s been used twice, once for 2005 Donald and Melania Trump’s wedding and then in 2011 for my wedding,” she further claimed.
About the dress
The seller described the sleeveless corset gown as a duchesse satin masterpiece featuring a figure-hugging silhouette, a 90-meter voluminous skirt, and intricate embroidery with 1,500 Swarovski diamonds. She stated that over 500 hours of hand-sewn crystal beading went into crafting the dress.
“All crystals on the dress are Swarovski. It does need to be cleaned and ironed. The satin is ivory-colored, but its shade changes depending on the background and lighting,” she added.
According to Vogue, the white satin Christian Dior gown worn by Melania Trump was made from 300 feet of material and embroidered with 1,500 crystal rhinestones and pearls.
However, the listing on eBay lacks a certificate of authenticity. At the time of writing this article, 200 people were “watching” the listing, and it was in seven carts.
