US President Joe Biden tested positive for COVID-19 while he was in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The White House reported that he is experiencing mild symptoms including general malaise. Press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that Biden will self-isolate at his home in Delaware and will meanwhile continue to perform his presidential duties, a report by Associated Press said.
Janet Murguía, President and CEO of UnidosUS, first shared the news at their convention in Las Vegas, where Biden had canceled his appearance due to testing positive.
Biden’s physician said that he noted symptoms including cough, runny nose and general malaise. The president has started taking the anti-viral drug Paxlovid.
Biden’s change of plans
Instead of attending the UnidosUS event, Biden flew to Delaware where he is currently in quarantine. It is worth noting that Biden contracted the virus even after being vaccinated and having received his recommended booster dose for Covid-19.
The diagnosis comes amid concerns over Biden’s health issues and debates about his ability to serve another presidential term.
Speaking of Covid-19, health officials have observed increased hospitalizations and positive cases across the U.S., especially in the southwestern region.
President Biden meanwhile remains under observation and will continue to fulfill his presidential duties while isolating at home in Delaware.
