The sisters of jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan lashed out at Field Marshal Asim Munir in no uncertain terms on Tuesday — accusing him of leading a dictatorial regime. The remarks came soon after Uzma Khanum met with the PTI chief in Adiala Jail amid continued buzz about his health. She also claimed that Khan was being “subjecting to mental torture” — holding Munir responsible for the entire situation. The remarks come amid continued backlash against the Pakistani government for passing an amendment to boost the powers of the field marshal.
“My sister visited him. She said health-wise he is absolutely fine. Because he exercises every day and he reads books (which he hasn’t been allowed to receive for the past seven weeks). But she said he was very angry. He said: ‘I’m being kept in solitary confinement’. And this is considered torture whether it’s international or Pakistani law. You do not put people in solitary confinement for more than 4 days. And he has been in solitary confinement for the past 7 weeks,” Aleema Khanum told Yalda Hakim during an interview.
‘It’s a dictatorship’
His sister Aleema Khanum claimed during an interview on Tuesday that Imran Khan held Munir “solely responsible” for the current situation. Their sister Uzma had shared a statement from the former Prime Minister after exiting Adiala jail — dubbing him “petty” and levelled dictatorship charges.
“So there’s one law…what he calls the Asim law. It’s a dictatorship. He said: ‘I hold him responsible for what’s being done to me because its against all regulations’. There is no law at the moment. We know that. It’s a dictatorship,” she reiterated.
‘Imran Khan facing mental torture in jail’
Uzma Khanum was allowed to meet briefly with her jailed brother on Tuesday amid continued speculation about his health and well-being. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has led massive protests outside Adiala Jail in recent weeks — with family members demanding “proof of life” from the authorities. The interaction lasted approximately 20 minutes and took place under strict supervision without mobile devices.
She told reporters her brother “looked healthy” but had been confined indoors for long periods with no communication with relatives or aides. She also voiced alarm about his living conditions and claimed that Imran Khan was facing “severe mental torture”.
“He is physically well. But he is kept inside all the time and only goes out for a short while. There is no contact with anybody….He was very angry and said that they are subjecting him to mental torture,” reports quoted Khanum as saying.
