In an appeal to the Iranian people, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the oppressive nature of their regime in a video message shared on social media platform X. The Prime Minister aimed to speak directly to the Iranian people, bypassing traditional channels to convey his support.
Netanyahu stated, “I speak a lot about the leaders of Iran. Yet at this pivotal moment, I want to address you – the people of Iran. I want to do so directly, without filters, without middlemen.” He condemned the Iranian government for its focus on military ambitions over the well-being of its citizens, noting, “Every day, you see a regime that subjugates you, making fiery speeches about defending Lebanon and Gaza while plunging our region deeper into darkness and war.”
Highlighting the disconnect between the regime’s priorities and the needs of its people, Netanyahu asserted, “The vast majority of Iranians know their regime doesn’t care a whit about them. If it did care, it would stop wasting billions on futile wars across the Middle East and start improving your lives.” He urged Iranians to envision a future where resources spent on warfare and nuclear ambitions are redirected towards critical areas such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
“Imagine if all the vast money the regime wasted on nuclear weapons and foreign wars were invested in your children’s education, in improving your healthcare, in building your nation’s infrastructure,” he said, emphasizing the potential for a prosperous future. Netanyahu declared that a free Iran could usher in opportunities for global investment, tourism, and technological innovation, asking, “Doesn’t that sound better than endless poverty, repression, and war?”
Netanyahu concluded his message by reinforcing Israel’s solidarity with the Iranian people, stating, “The people of Iran should know – Israel stands with you. May we together know a future of prosperity and peace.”
These remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region following the Israeli Defence Forces’ (IDF) recent precision strike that eliminated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, whom Netanyahu described as “the main engine of Iran’s axis of evil.” He reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to national security, declaring, “If someone rises up to kill you, kill him first,” and stated that Nasrallah’s removal was essential for ensuring the safety of Israeli citizens and the return of hostages.
The IDF confirmed targeting Nasrallah during airstrikes in Beirut, asserting that he would “no longer be able to terrorise the world.” Netanyahu emphasised that Israel remains determined to confront threats from Iran and its proxies, stating, “There is no place in Iran or the Middle East that the long arm of Israel cannot reach.”
