The Indian Embassy released helpline numbers and urged caution on Sunday as Israel and Iran traded airstrikes for a third consecutive day. Officials have also urged citizens avoid unnecessary movement within the war-hit country and observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities. It also created a Telegram link for communications and urged all citizens to remain in touch with the Embassy. The update came even as Israel issued an evacuation warning to Iranians residing near reactors on Sunday.
“In view of the current situation in Iran, all Indian nationals and persons of Indian origin in Iran are required to remain in touch with the Embassy, avoid all unnecessary movements in Iran and follow Embassy social media pages for updates,” read an advisory from the Embassy of India in Tehran.
All Indian nationals in Iran have also been asked to join a Telegram link (https://t.me/indiansiniran) to receive updates on the situation from the Embassy. The multi-post alert also included a long list of helpline numbers and social media channels that can be monitored for information. The Indian Embassy in Tehran also shared a Google Form seeking details from Indians in the country — including their current cities, passport and visa details and contact numbers.
“Please remember, it is important not to panic, exercise due caution and maintain contact with the Embassy of India in Tehran,” the Embassy reiterated.
The development came amid escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran — with Tel Aviv warning that the worst was yet to come. The Benjamin Netanyahu-led country has so far targeted the Israeli Defense Ministry headquarters in Tehran and sites it alleged were associated with Iran’s nuclear program. Meanwhile Iranian missiles evaded Israeli air defenses and slammed into buildings deep inside Israel on Saturday and led to civilian causalities. The region remains braced for a drawn-out conflict after Israeli strikes hit nuclear and military facilities in the other country — killing several senior generals and top nuclear scientists.
“In view of the current situation in Iran, all Indian nationals & persons of Indian origin in Iran are requested to remain vigilant, avoid all unnecessary movements, follow the Embassy’s Social Media accounts & observe safety protocols as advised by local authorities,” the Indian Embassy had said on Friday.
