Hamas on Tuesday (August 13) launched two rockets at Tel Aviv, Israel’s commercial center, marking the first such attack in months. The Israeli military reported that one rocket landed in the sea and the other did not reach Israeli territory, with no casualties reported in Israel.
“We have bombed the city of Tel Aviv and its suburbs with two ‘M90′ missiles in response to the Zionist massacres against civilians and the deliberate displacement of our people,” Hamas’ military wing said in a statement.
The Israeli military reported that its operations in Gaza included targeting Palestinian gunmen, dismantling military structures, and striking rocket launchers and sniper posts. Both sides remain engaged in conflict as mediators work to resume ceasefire talks later this week.
Peace talks and ceasefire agreement
The United States announced on Monday that it anticipates the peace talks scheduled for Thursday will proceed as planned and that a ceasefire agreement remains within reach. According to Axios, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is set to travel to Qatar, Egypt, and Israel on Tuesday to engage in discussions.
The Israeli government confirmed it will send a delegation to the talks. However, Hamas, the Palestinian militant group that governed Gaza prior to the conflict, has requested a concrete plan for implementing an already accepted proposal instead of further discussions.
