Donald Trump is set to attend the Gaza peace summit alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who will co-host the meeting of more than 20 world leaders. The summit will take place in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday, following Trump’s visit to Israel, where he will speak at the Knesset and meet families of hostages taken during the recent conflict.
According to the Egyptian presidency, the goal of the meeting is “to end the war in the Gaza Strip, enhance efforts to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East, and usher in a new era of regional security and stability.” The discussions are expected to focus on the ceasefire, the next stages of Trump’s 20-point peace plan, and other regional security concerns.
Who will attend the Gaza Peace Summit?
Donald Trump
The US president is likely to speak about his peace plan and discuss key issues such as who will govern Gaza after the war ends and the fate of Hamas, which remains unresolved. Trump, however, is confident about the current ceasefire as he proudly declared to reporters on Sunday, “The war is over.”
Abdel Fattah al-Sisi
Egypt has played a major role in negotiating between Israel and Hamas over the past two years. Al-Sisi’s invitation to Trump is seen as a way to extend his gratitude and support towards the ceasefire and ensure stability, according to a source speaking to Reuters.
Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani
Qatar’s Emir reportedly advocated for Trump’s involvement in the peace process. He has long hoped the US president’s engagement would bring a successful outcome.
Mahmoud Abbas
The Palestinian Authority leader’s potential role in Gaza under Trump’s peace plan remains contingent on reforms. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected any future governing role for Abbas in Gaza.
Indian Prime Minister Modi declines invitation, sends minister
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reportedly declined the last-minute invitation extended by Donald Trump and Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. Instead, India will be represented at the peace summit by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh. PM Modi, however, is expected to meet Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty later this week.
French President Emmanuel Macron, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, leaders from countries that were among the first to congratulate Trump for bringing peace to the region and calling for an immediate ceasefire, will be attending the Gaza peace summit, according to The Guardian. In addition, European Council President Antonio Costa and UN Secretary-General António Guterres will also be present at the summit, scheduled for October 13.

Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto
Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev

Who will not attend the Gaza peace summit in Egypt
Israel will reportedly not send representatives to the summit, a spokesperson for Netanyahu confirmed on Sunday. A Hamas political bureau member said that the group “will not be involved,” adding that the organisation has already “acted principally through … Qatari and Egyptian mediators” during earlier Gaza talks.
Iran has declined the invitation. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi posted on X: “Neither President Pezeshkian nor I can engage with counterparts who have attacked the Iranian people and continue to threaten and sanction us.” This follows US-led attacks on Iranian nuclear sites during a 12-day war in June.
The ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect on Friday following the first phase of Trump’s 20-point peace plan, which was agreed on Wednesday. It includes the exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners, expected to take place on Monday.
