In a shocking turn of events, the grand opening of Pakistan’s Dream Bazaar Mall in Karachi, descended into chaos as a large-scale looting spree unfolded. The mall, which opened its doors at approximately 3:00 pm, was overrun by a massive crowd by 3:30 pm. Viral videos on social media capture the mayhem, showing thousands of individuals surging into the mall and causing widespread disorder. This rapid escalation resulted in significant damage and substantial financial losses for the retailers.
Chaos took place in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Johar
According to reports, looting began suddenly, when a large crowd gathered at the entrance of the mall. Within minutes, the situation got out of control as the large crowd forced their way inside, and the security person could not control the large mob. The advertisement for the opening of the mail was announced through social media and attracted a significant amount of people. In the videos circulating online, people can be seen vandalizing the store and looting the branded clothes. Store management tried their best to stop the crowd but it went berserk. People were seen grabbing whatever they could get their hands on. They were also recording their videos while stealing the clothes.
The mall is constructed by a Pakistani-origin business who is based abroad as per reports. As the incident unfolded, there was no presence of police. As per the video which is circulating online, the women were also seen in the crowd. Almost the entire building of the mall was ransacked, glasses were shattered and clothes were seen lying on the ground.
Mall management has already begun assessing their loss and expressed their disappointment. They have also asked for better security arrangements so that incidents like this can be prevented.
