Trump UK State Visit Highlights: US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump spent their first day at Windsor Castle during their historic second state visit to Britain. The day ended with a state banquet attended by Trump, hosted by King Charles III, with other senior British politicians in attendance, and also CEOs of major US tech companies, including Sam Altman of OpenAI and Jensen Huang of NVIDIA.

Trump’s State Banquet Speech

In his banquet toast, Trump called it “one of the highest honors of my life.”

“Seen from American eyes the word ‘special’ does not begin to do justice (referencing to the special relationship). We are joined by history and fate and love and language and transcendent ties of culture, tradition, ancestry and destiny,” Trump said in his speech.

He described the ties between the US and the UK as “priceless and eternal.” Trump also spoke about how he believed he had transformed America in one year from “a very sick country” into “the hottest country anywhere in the world.”

He then offered a toast to the “great friendship” between the two nations and to the King, before the UK’s national anthem, “God Save the King,” was played.

What did the King say?

The main point that King Charles made in his speech was about the strong bond shared between the US and the UK. He recalled how people from both nations had stood side by side and sacrificed their lives to protect shared values.

The King added that as Europe once again faced threats from tyranny, Britain and its allies, including the US, were united in supporting Ukraine to deter aggression and maintain peace.

He also drew a link between the modern challenges to democracy and the historic wartime partnership of the two countries. The King further added that the US and UK shared the closest defence, security, and intelligence ties ever known.

In closing, the King spoke of renewing the UK-US relationship with complete trust in their friendship and a shared dedication to liberty and independence. He then raised a toast to Donald and Melania Trump, and wished health, prosperity, and happiness for the people of the United States.
