Former US President Donald Trump has nominated Pam Bondi, Florida’s former Attorney General, for the position of U.S. Attorney General. This announcement followed Congressman Matt Gaetz’s decision to withdraw his name from consideration, citing concerns that his candidacy might distract from the administration’s transition efforts.

Trump praises Bondi

Trump hailed Bondi’s nearly two-decade career as a prosecutor, during which she earned a reputation for being strict with violent criminals and prioritizing public safety. She is also Florida’s first female Attorney General, Bondi worked to fight against drug trafficking and also helped in reducing the devastating impact of Fentanyl overdose.

”Pam has done an amazing job,” Trump stated, highlighting her commitment to law enforcement and safeguarding the public. He has also blamed the Department of Justice (DOJ) for being used as a weapon against Republicans and pledged that Bondi would restore its mission. ”Pam will transform the focus on its main goal of fighting crime and making America safe again,” he added.

Gaetz announced his withdrawal from the nomination process earlier in the day after receiving backlash from the opposition lawmakers and also from some within his party. While accepting the strong criticism behind his nomination, Gaetz mentioned, ”It is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a hurdle to the critical task of the Trump transition.”

Trump extended gratitude for Gaetz’s efforts and his decision to step back, terming it as a selfless act. ”Mat has an incredible future, and I look ahead to watching all the great things he will do!” Trump added. Gaetz promised his assistance to Trump, and expressed his firm belief in the administration’s ability to ”Save America” and its future successes under the supervision of Bondi’s leadership at the DOJ.
