While speaking in an interview with Bloomberg, Donald Trump‘s trade advisor Peter Navarro looked sharp into the camera and said, “India – you’re getting in bed with authoritarians. China invaded Aksai Chin and all your territory. They are not your friends. And Russia? Come on!”
‘If India, China stop buying Russian oil, Putin runs out of money’: Navarro
When asked if the US was losing leverage with China by paying too much attention to India, White House advisor Peter Navarro pushed back strongly. He said the real problem was Russian oil and stressed that if India, China, and Europe stopped buying it, Russia would quickly lose the money that they need to “fund their war” in Ukraine.
Navarro pointed out that India alone buys around 1.5 million barrels of Russian oil daily, which he said indirectly funds weapons used against Ukrainians.
He also criticised India for ignoring global concerns. According to Navarro, India keeps on denying having some of the world’s highest tariffs, even though the data suggests otherwise. At the same time, it keeps buying oil from Russia, defending the decision as a matter of sovereignty. Navarro described this stance as arrogant and harmful.
Navarro claims India’s actions hurt everyone
Navarro claimed that after India buys Russian oil at a discount, then Indian refiners and Russian refiners work in partnership and sell that oil “at a premium” for the rest of the world. He then claims that Putin uses this oil money to kill more Ukrainians. “And then the next thing that happens of course is that Ukraine and Europe come to us and say give us more money. So everybody loses because of what India is doing.”
He further added that due to India charging high tariffs, American taxpayers like consumers, businesses and workers lose out a lot because the country has to fund “Modi’s war”. Navarro was referring to Russia-Ukraine war and said, “the road of peace runs right through New Delhi. It’s Modi’s war. That’s a lot of money.”
