The Brampton Triveni Mandir and Community Centre in Canada has cancelled a Life Certificate event due to “extremely high and imminent threat level of violent protests”. The consular camp event that was set to take place at the Brampton Mandir on November 17 was basically being held to assist Indian-origin Hindus and Sikhs with the renewal of essential life certificates. The cancellation follows a security warning from Peel Regional Police, which indicated a significant threat of violent protests in the area. As a result, the event has been deemed too risky to proceed.

The temple authorities expressed regret over the cancellation of the consular event, acknowledging the inconvenience caused to those who were relying on it. They also expressed concern over the growing unease within the community, noting that incidents like these have made many Canadians feel unsafe visiting Hindu temples. “We are deeply saddened that Canadians now feel unsafe coming to Hindu Temples in Canada. We call on Peel Police to address the threats being circulated against Brampton Triveni Mandir and provide security guarantees to the Canadian Hindu Community and the general public,” the statement said.

The temple administration also called upon Peel Regional Police to take immediate action in addressing the threats targeting Brampton Triveni Mandir, and to ensure adequate security for both the local Hindu community and the general public.

This cancellation follows an earlier incident on November 3, when a consular camp at the Hindu Sabha Temple in Brampton was disrupted by violent protests, drawing widespread condemnation both within Canada and internationally.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly criticized the attack on the Hindu temple, calling it a deliberate act of aggression. He also condemned the intimidation of Indian diplomats and reiterated India’s expectation that the Canadian government would ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.

The diplomatic relationship between India and Canada has significantly deteriorated in recent weeks, particularly following allegations by Canadian officials about an assassination on Canadian soil, for which no evidence has been presented.
