US President Donald Trump took yet another step towards world peace (and a Nobel Prize) on Sunday — with Cambodia and Thailand signing a ‘historical’ agreement. The POTUS joined the ceremony soon after his arrival in
“There was a lot of killing. And then we got it stopped, very quickly…We did something that a lot of people said couldn’t be done,” Trump said.
Trump had also taken to Truth Social with an update while heading to Malaysia — noting that he would be signing “the great peace deal” immediately upon arrival. He also lauded himself for “proudly brokering” the agreement between Cambodia and Thailand. Trump was on stage as Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul signed the agreement on Sunday morning.
The terms of the agreement will see Thailand releasing 18 Cambodian soldiers who are being held prisoner. Both sides will also begin removing heavy weapons from the border area as part of the first phase .There were few details in the agreement on how it would be carried out — though it said the leaders agreed to establish an observer team made up of ASEAN member states “with the objective of ensuring the full and effective implementation.” Both Cambodian and Thai leaders called the agreement a “joint declaration” on the ceasefire and Trump dubbed it the “Kuala Lumpur Peace Accords”
‘Will solve Afghanistan-Pakistan crisis very quickly’
US President Donald Trump also said on Sunday that he would solve the Afghanistan-Pakistan crisis “very quickly,” as peace talks between the warring neighbors entered a second day. He made the comments while attending the signing of the Thailand–Cambodia peace agreement and added that the leaders of Pakistan were “great people.”
“I heard that Pakistan and Afghanistan have started up. But I’ll get that solved very quickly,” said Trump on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Malaysia.
