Britain’s Stonehenge was sprayed with paint by environmental protestors on Wednesday, a footage of which was circulated online which showed orange marks covering some stones at the prehistoric megalithic structure.
Local police announced that two individuals have been arrested on suspicion of vandalizing the ancient monument.
In a video released by the environmental group Just Stop Oil, two protesters were seen running toward two of Stonehenge’s megaliths and spraying paint, while another individual attempted to intervene.
The Stonehenge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most visited tourist spots in Britain.
Just Stop Oil has become well-known in Britain for its disruptive environmental protests, including shutting down major roads, disrupting cultural and sporting events, and even throwing soup at a Van Gogh painting.
The group demands that the British government cease the extraction and burning of oil, gas, and coal by 2030.
