A late-night bombing near Karachi Airport has left two Chinese nationals dead and eight others injured, including police officers escorting the convoy. The attack, claimed by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), occurred as the Chinese workers were departing the airport in a convoy. Initially, authorities suspected the explosion was due to an oil tanker, but police later confirmed it was a bomb attack.

Safety Concerns

The incident marks the latest in a series of violent assaults on Chinese citizens in Pakistan, raising concerns about their safety amid ongoing infrastructure projects linked to China’s multibillion-dollar Belt and Road Initiative. The Chinese Embassy in Islamabad confirmed that the victims were staff members of the Port Qasim Electric Power Company, a joint venture between China and Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the bombing as a “heinous terrorist attack” and expressed condolences to the families of the victims. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also denounced the attack, stating that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the safety of Chinese nationals working in the country, which has seen a significant increase in Chinese presence due to development projects.
