Tara Chand, President of the Baloch American Congress, has made a direct appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to offer meaningful support for the cause of a free Balochistan. In a strongly-worded letter shared publicly, Chand accused Pakistan of decades-long atrocities, including enforced disappearances, torture, and genocide, against the Baloch people.

In a post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Chand wrote: “I have written a letter to Prime Minister Modi… Urging @narendramodi to lend meaningful support for a free #Balochistan! The Baloch people face oppression and genocide under Pakistan’s regime. A free Balochistan would be a blessing for peace-loving India. Stand with us for justice!” He also attached the letter with his post.

PM Modi’s support ‘gave Balochistan hope’

Chand recalled PM Modi’s reference to Balochistan during his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort in 2016, describing it as a pivotal moment that gave the Baloch community “hope.” He emphasised that Balochistan is an occupied and terrorised land, controlled by Pakistan since 1948.

“Since the occupation of our land by the British-created country Pakistan in 1948, my Baloch people have been severely oppressed by the powerful machinery of a rogue state,” Chand wrote. “This ill-conceived country is responsible for the disappearance, torture, death, and dislocation of thousands of my countrymen.”

Accusations of genocide and China’s growing influence

Labelling the situation in Balochistan as genocide, Chand stated that Pakistan is carrying out systematic atrocities under the cover of international diplomacy. “The conflict of Balochistan and Pakistan is actually a story of genocide, as defined by the UN covenants, by the Rawalpindi GHQ,” he said.

He warned that China’s growing presence in the region has compounded their challenges, describing Beijing as a “colonial power” now backing Pakistan’s oppressive regime.

Chand lauds India’s tough stand on Indus Water Treaty

Chand praised India’s recent suspension of the Indus Water Treaty following the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a strong and symbolic move. “India made it clear to the jihadist generals that blood and water cannot flow together,” he noted, urging PM Modi to also mention Pakistan-occupied Balochistan more frequently in his speech at global forums.

He called it a potential “masterstroke” against Pakistan, which he claimed is on the brink of collapse.

Mir Yar Baloch declares Balochistan independent

Earlier this month, Baloch representative Mir Yar Baloch declared Balochistan’s independence from Pakistan, citing decades of oppression. He urged Indian citizens and media to stop referring to Balochs as “Pakistan’s own people.”

“We are not Pakistani; we are Balochistani,” he wrote. “Pakistan’s own people are the Punjabi who never faced air bombings, enforced disappearances, and genocide.”

Mir Yar also extended full support to India’s stance on Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, calling on the international community to demand Pakistan vacate all occupied territories.
