At a time when Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was reportedly sidelined by other member states at the ongoing Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir arrived in Tianjin on Monday, according to a CNN-News18 report.
The Pakistan army chief is also likely to meet Russia President Putin.
Munir accompanied Sharif during a meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi on the sidelines of the summit. Sources suggest he will also join Sharif in bilateral discussions with Chinese officials, where major security issues are expected to dominate the agenda.
Munir is further expected to attend China’s Military Parade Day on 3 September, underlining the growing military ties between Beijing and Islamabad.
